Jeroen Blijlevens
Jeroen Blijlevens (born December 29, 1971 in Rijen , the Netherlands ) is a former Dutch cyclist .
Career
Blijlevens turned pro in 1994. The Dutchman usually won a total of 74 races in the sprint, including stages in the three major tours Giro d'Italia , Tour de France and Vuelta a España . An inglorious highlight of his career was the final stage of the Tour de France 2000 . After crossing the finish line, he got into an argument with Bobby Julich , whom he accused of hindering him in the mass sprint. At first the argument was purely verbal, but eventually Blijlevens hit Julich's face with his fist. Because of this action, he was subsequently disqualified.
Blijlevens ended his career on April 22, 2004. He then worked as a co-commentator for the Dutch section of the sports channel Eurosport . Since 2010 he has been the manager of the Nederland Bloeit women's cycling team .
doping
In an investigation report by the Anti-Doping Commission of the French Senate in July 2013, Blijlevens was accused of being among around 60 drivers who, based on follow-up tests in 2004, had doped with the blood formation hormone erythropoietin (EPO for short) at the 1998 Tour de France could be proven. After years of denial, Blijvens admitted in July 2014 that he and his Dutch teammate Bart Voskamp had doped with EPO in 1998 and illegally imported EPO preparations from Spain into the Netherlands. In a documentary by the Dutch broadcaster NOS , both drivers also stated that TVM team leader Cees Priem did not know anything about it and was wrongly convicted in France at the time. When confronted with these statements, Priem himself was visibly hit, but said "better late than never".
