Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (born November 17, 1958 in Lombard , Illinois ) is an American actress .

biography

Mastrantonio grew up in Oak Park , Illinois, USA as the daughter of Italian immigrants and began her career as a teenager with performances in school. She graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School and attended Illinois University . It was there that she became interested in acting.

After moving to New York, she starred in the West Side Story in 1981 and later took on film roles. She had her first appearance in 1983 with Robert De Niro and Jerry Lewis in Martin Scorsese's comedy King of Comedy . In Scarface she worked under Brian De Palma . Scorsese soon cast them in The Color of Money . For the role in this film, she received a Golden Globe, a New York Film Critics Circle Award - and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In the early 1990s, she became known to large audiences worldwide, mainly for her roles in Abyss , The Law of Power and Robin Hood - The Thief King - in which she replaced the pregnant Robin Wright Penn . From 2005 she took on several guest appearances in the television series Without a Trace . She plays a colleague with whom the main character Jack Malone falls in love. Since April 2010 she has been a member of the ensemble of the series Criminal Intent - Verbrechen im Visier , in which she replaced Eric Bogosian as Captain of the Major Case Squad.

In 1989 Mastrantonio fell in love with director Pat O'Connor while filming In the Sign of the Virgin . In 1990 the two married and they had two children together - Jack and Declan. When choosing roles, the 1.63 m tall actress basically chooses roles that she likes and not those that promise attention. She regularly takes time off to spend time with her family. She has lived in London with her family since 2001 .

Career as a singer

Mastrantonio is a recognized cabaret singer, which she was able to prove in the film When the Fog clears (1999). In 2003 she was nominated for a Tony Award for her portrayal of Aldonza / Dulcinea in the revival of Man of La Mancha .
