Limitless ( German limitless ) is an American crime series by CBS , which is based on the movie Ohne Limit (2011) and continues its plot. Bradley Cooper , who played the role of Edward Morra in the film, acted as executive producer and also took on the role on the series. The series is about Brian Finch, played by Jake McDorman , who takes the experimental drug NZT-48 , which gives access to 100 percent of his brain capacity.
The series adaptation was ordered by CBS on May 8, 2015, and it premiered in the United States on September 22, 2015. Due to solid ratings of around nine million viewers per episode during the first few weeks, CBS decided in October 2015 to order a full first season of a total of 22 episodes.
On May 26, 2016, CBS announced the discontinuation of the series after only one season.
action
The unsuccessful and penniless Brian Finch receives a pill from a friend, which is the experimental drug NZT-48 , which extremely increases his brain activity. When his friend is murdered, Brian is suspected of murder. He uses the drug to help the FBI find the killer. He is then hired by the FBI as a consultant, where he is supposed to swallow a pill of NZT every day to test its effects. The pill works for 12 hours. From then on, Brian supports the FBI in complicated cases and is integrated into the team. Agent Rebecca Harris takes on the role of a guardian.
Because the NZT causes side effects that can be fatal, Brian is blackmailed by Senator Edward Morra, who became addicted years ago and developed a vaccine against the side effects. Brian has to regularly pick up a dose from Morra or his helper Sands. Brian told the FBI that he was immune to the side effects. After an assassination attempt on the senator, it is suspected that Morra also consumes NZT , so that Brian has to falsify the evidence. He also finds out that Sands is responsible for the death of Rebecca's father, who was addicted to NZT .
Morra assigns Brian to murder Piper Baird, who like Morra developed a vaccine (which is about to be completed) and is therefore a direct competitor. Brian falls in love with Piper and fakes her death. Piper flees to Russia, Brian follows her. There a love relationship develops between the two. Sands discovers the deception and kidnaps Piper to finish developing the vaccine. Sands has its own NZT source, turns away from Morra and gathers more followers around him. Morra goes into hiding when Sands arranges for the arrest of Morra's closest confidante. Sands is caught by the FBI and shot by Rebecca. Piper reappears and gives Brian a permanent dose of vaccine.

background
Like the film, the series is based on the novel The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn . The basic idea behind the plot is the ten percent myth : NZT-48 enables access to 100 percent of the brain's capacity for 12 hours. However, the myth itself is not further spread in the series and is even referred to as such. Instead, the effects of the drug are largely related to more specific skills such as memory and self-control.
The series was presented to the public for the first time at Comic-Con 2015, with mostly positive reactions.
Filming
The series was shot in Bushwick , in the New York borough of Brooklyn .
