Lexi Alexander (born August 23, 1974 in Mannheim ) is a German film director .

Life

Alexander studied acting and directing at the Piero Dusa Conservatory and UCLA . In 2002 the short film Johnny Flynton was made , which was nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Short Film " in 2003 .

The theme of her first feature film, Hooligans, comes from her childhood. Her brother had taken her to SV Waldhof soccer matches , where she learned a lot about the soccer fan scene. Her brother was a violent fan of this team and also organized in a hooligan group. Inspired by these experiences, she worked together with the former hooligan Dougie Brimson on the script for the film Hooligans with Elijah Wood , which she also directed herself.

In late 2008, Alexander directed the comic book adaptation Punisher: War Zone, starring Ray Stevenson as Punisher . Alexander himself described the genesis in detail in an episode of the podcast How Did This Get Made in 2011. According to her own statement, she was looking for a suitable script for her Hollywood debut film for over two years and finally felt herself to be through her agents Urged to take over the direction of the third Punisher film. They persuaded her by pointing out that apart from Kathryn Bigelow there were no successful female directors of action films and that she could pave the way for more young women directors.
