Cabinet of Alexis Tsipras II
The cabinet of Alexis Tsipras II formed the government of Greece from September 23, 2015 . It follows the interim government of Vasiliki Thanou-Christofilou and was replaced in 2019 by the Kyriakos Mitsotakis cabinet .
history
Alexis Tsipras was given the task of forming a government by President Prokopis Pavlopoulos after his coalition of the radical left (SYRIZA) received the most votes (35.5%) in the parliamentary elections on September 20, 2015 . He was sworn in as the new Prime Minister on September 21, 2015 and again agreed a coalition between his party and the Independent Greeks (ANEL), which received 3.69% of the vote. The governing coalition has a majority of 155 of the 300 seats in the Greek parliament (145 SYRIZA and 10 ANEL). Opposite them are seven parties in opposition.
As in his first cabinet , Tsipras appointed Giannis Tsironis from the green party Ikologi Prasini , which had run on the SYRIZA list, as deputy environment minister.
In the roll-call initial vote of confidence on October 8, 2015, all 155 members of the Tsipras government coalition expressed their confidence.
On November 4, 2016, Tsipras presented the new composition of his government and tweeted: "Government reshuffle with a clear goal perspective: growth and the improvement of the everyday life of the citizen". The government reshuffle took place on November 5, 2016 with the swearing-in of the new ministers. Instead of 14 there are now 18 ministries; there are now four new or independent ministries for migration and refugees, reconstruction, tourism and for digital politics and telecommunications.
In mid-January 2019, Defense Minister Kammenos resigned in the dispute over the compromise on the Macedonia question and announced the withdrawal of his ANEL party from the ruling coalition. A vote of confidence in Parliament was scheduled for January 16. Tsipras narrowly survived them with 151 out of 300 votes.
