Cabinet Kostas Karamanlis I
The Kostas Karamanlis I cabinet was formed on March 10, 2004 in Greece by Kostas Karamanlis and replaced the third Simitis cabinet . The cabinet existed until September 19, 2007, when it was replaced by Karamanli's second cabinet .
In the previous parliamentary election of March 7, 2004 , the Panellinio Sosialistiko Kinima (PASOK) , which had ruled up until then, had to record losses of 3.24 percentage points compared to the parliamentary election of April 8, 2000 and only got 40.55 percent of the vote (2000 : 43.79 percent). In doing so, it lost its absolute majority in parliament due to the increased proportional representation and only won 117 of the 300 seats. The previously opposition Nea Dimokratia (ND) led by Kostas Karamanlis was able to increase its voting result by 2.62 percentage points, so that it now received 45.36 percent of the vote (2000: 42.74). At the same time, thanks to the existing electoral system, it won 165 seats (2000: 117 seats) and thus a clear absolute majority.
