Cabinet Xenophon Zolotas
The Xenophon Zolotas cabinet was formed on November 23, 1989 in Greece by Xenophon Zolotas and replaced the Ioannis Grivas cabinet . The cabinet existed until April 11, 1990, when it was replaced by Konstantinos Mitsotaki's cabinet .
In the parliamentary elections of November 5, 1989 , neither Konstantinos Mitsotakis's Nea Dimokratia (ND) nor the Panellinio Sosialistiko Kinima (PASOK), led by Andreas Papandreou , managed to obtain an absolute majority in parliament . While the ND with 148 mandates only narrowly failed due to an absolute majority of 151 of the 300 parliamentary seats, the PASOK only won 128 seats. After the resignation of the Prime Minister of the transitional government and previous President of the Supreme Court , Ioannis Grivas , the former director of the Bank of Greece , Xenophon Zolotas, took on the task of forming another transitional government on November 23, 1989 because of this situation in the Hung parliament .
The three largest parties ND, PASOK and the electoral alliance Synaspismos had previously agreed to support an all-party government led by Zolotas (Οικουμενική κυβέρνηση), which, in addition to leading a transitional government, should prepare new elections in particular. In February 1990, Zolotas carried out an extensive government reshuffle.
The parliamentary election of April 8, 1990 meant that ND got 150 seats and PASOK got 123 seats. Thanks to the support of Theodoros Katsikis, the only member of the Dimokratiki Ananeosi (DIANA, Δημοκρατική Ανανέωση Democratic Renewal ), Mitsotakis succeeded in forming a government.
