Cabinet Alexis Tsipras I
The Alexis Tsipras I cabinet formed the government of Greece between January 27, 2015 and August 28, 2015, and succeeded the Samara cabinet .
history
Alexis Tsipras was commissioned to form a government by President Karolos Papoulias after his coalition of the radical left (SYRIZA) received the most votes in the general election in Greece on January 25, 2015 . On January 26, he agreed a coalition between his party and the right-wing populist Independent Greeks (ANEL) and was sworn in as the new Prime Minister. Two days after the election he named his ministers; these were sworn in on the same day.
The Greek cabinet only had ten ministers, half as many as the previous government. Some departments have been combined into super ministries.
Tsipras appointed Giannis Tsironis of the green party Ikologi Prasini , which had run on the SYRIZA list, as deputy environment minister.
Following the July 5, 2015 referendum , Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis resigned and was replaced by Efklidis Tsakalotos .
On July 16, 2015, 32 SYRIZA MPs voted against an austerity package that was being voted on in parliament. The next day, Tsipras announced a reshuffle of his cabinet: he dismissed, among others, the energy and environment minister Panagiotis Lafazanis , the deputy minister for social issues, Dimitris Stratoulis, and the deputy minister of defense Costas Isychos. Panos Skourletis became the new Minister for Energy and the Environment and Giorgos Katroungalos took over the Ministry of Labor . The new ministers were sworn in on July 18, 2015.
