Giorgos Stathakis
Giorgos Stathakis ( Greek Γιώργος Σταθάκης , born November 8, 1953 in Chania ) is a Greek economist and politician of the SYRIZA party .
Academic education & career
Stathakis studied economics in Athens and at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in Great Britain, where he received his PhD in 1983. Then he embarked on a scientific career; he became a university professor, first at the University of Patras and from 1988 at the University of Crete .
He dealt scientifically with economics, international economics, history of economic theories, Marxist economic theory, economics of Greece and the Balkans and technology.
Political career
From January 27, 2015 to August 28, 2015, he was again Minister for Economy, Infrastructure, Merchant Navy and Tourism in the Alexis Tsipras I and II cabinet from September 23, 2015 until the government reshuffle on November 4, 2016 .
