Nikolaos "Nikos" Pappas ( Greek Νικόλαος "Νίκος" Παππάς , * 1976 in Athens ) is a Greek politician . He was Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office in the Alexis Tsipras cabinet since January 27, 2015 and has been Minister for Digital Politics, Telecommunications and Media since November 2016.

Pappas grew up as the son of a resistance fighter against the military dictatorship , a cadre of the Eurocommunist KKE (Inland) in Kesariani near Athens. He was politically active early on in the youth organization of the left party Synaspismos , where he met Alexis Tsipras .

He studied economics in Edinburgh , Scotland , where he obtained his master’s degree, and then worked as a scientist at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow at the Fraser of Allander Institute until his friend Tsipras, who was then running for chairmanship of Synaspismos , followed him back in 2008 Greece called. He now worked as its office manager and was a member of Synaspismos' central committee. In June 2012 - shortly before the parliamentary election on June 17, 2012 - Synaspismos dissolved and became part of the SYRIZA party alliance .

After Tsipras was elected Prime Minister, he appointed Pappas to be his right-hand man in government headquarters. During the cabinet reshuffle on November 5, 2016, he was appointed Minister for Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media. The first major project in this office, the reorganization of the TV licenses, failed, however; the Council of State recognized them as unconstitutional.
