Aristidis Baltas

Aristidis Baltas ( Greek Αριστείδης Μπαλτάς , born February 9, 1943 in Kerkyra ) is a Greek scientist and politician . He is a member of the SYRIZA party . From January 27, 2015 he was Minister of Education, Culture and Religion in the first cabinet of Tsipras . He is also a member of Tsipras' second cabinet .

From 1962 to 1967 he studied electrical engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (Polytechnio). He then went on to study theoretical physics at the Laboratoire de Physique Théorique et de Hautes Énergies at the University of Paris , where he received his doctorate in 1972.

In 1982 he founded the interdisciplinary program of philosophy and the history of science and technology and taught first as a lecturer, then as professor philosophy and methodology of physics at the Physics Department of the Polytechnio, interrupted by research stays and visiting professorships at the London School of Economics (1983) , in Pittsburgh (1984/85 and 1985/86), Princeton (1993) and Istanbul (2006).
