Cabinet Tzannis Tzannetakis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tzannis Tzannetakis cabinet was formed on July 2, 1989 in Greece by Tzannis Tzannetakis and replaced the second Papandreou cabinet . The cabinet existed until October 12, 1989, when it was replaced by the Ioannis Grivas cabinet .

In the parliamentary elections on June 18, 1989 , the Panellinio Sosialistiko Kinima PASOK , led by Papandreou, suffered a severe defeat of 6.7 percentage points and only got 39.1 percent of the vote and 125 seats. The Nea Dimokratia (ND), led by Konstantinos Mitsotakis, missed an absolute majority despite a gain of 3.5 percentage points to 44.3 percent and only had 145 seats. Since Mitsotakis could not form a one-party government and did not want to form a coalition government because of an electoral reform previously passed by PASOK, the former Minister for Public Works Tzannis Tzannetakis, who belonged to the ND, formed a coalition government with the left-wing alliance Synaspismos under the chairman Charilaos Florakis , who at the time also belonged to the Communist Party of Greece (KKE).

After Synaspismos gave up his support, Tzannetakis resigned as prime minister on October 11, 1989.
