Cabinet of Ioannis Grivas
The Ioannis Grivas cabinet was formed on October 12, 1989 in Greece by Ioannis Grivas , replacing the Tzannis Tzannetakis cabinet . The cabinet existed until November 23, 1989, when it was replaced by Xenophon Zolota's cabinet .
In the parliamentary elections on June 18, 1989 , the Panellinio Sosialistiko Kinima PASOK , led by Papandreou, suffered a severe defeat of 6.7 percentage points and only got 39.1 percent of the vote and 125 seats. The Nea Dimokratia (ND), led by Konstantinos Mitsotakis, missed an absolute majority despite a gain of 3.5 percentage points to 44.3 percent and only had 145 seats. Since Mitsotakis could not form a one-party government and did not want to form a coalition government because of an electoral reform previously passed by PASOK, the former Minister for Public Works Tzannis Tzannetakis, who belonged to the ND, formed a coalition government with the left-wing alliance Synaspismos under the chairman Charilaos Florakis , who at the time also belonged to the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). After Synaspismos gave up his support, Tzannetakis resigned as prime minister on October 11, 1989.
Then Grivas, as President of the Supreme Court of Justice ( Areopagus ), formed a transitional government on October 12, 1989 until the parliamentary elections on November 5, 1989 and the subsequent formation of a government by the former director of the Bank of Greece , Xenophon Zolotas , on November 23, 1989 The Grivas cabinet consisted largely of non-party experts. Only the ministers Giorgos Kontogeorgis, Ioannis Deligiannis, Antonis Foussas and Giorgos Kontogeorgis came from the ND, while the PASOK provided two ministers with Vasileios Skouris and Ioannis Koukiadis. At the suggestion of Synaspismos Georgios Mylonas and the non-party Konstantinos Despotopoulos were appointed.
