Cabinet Andreas Papandreou III

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Andreas Papandreou III cabinet was formed on October 13, 1993 in Greece by Andreas Papandreou and replaced the Konstantinos Mitsotakis cabinet . The cabinet existed until Papandreou's resignation due to illness on January 22, 1996 and was then replaced by the first cabinet of Konstantinos Simitis . Most recently, Akis Tsochatzopoulos was acting provisionally from January 17 to January 22, 1996.

In the previous parliamentary election on October 10, 1993 , Konstantinos Mitsotakis' ruling Nea Dimokratia (ND) suffered considerable losses of 7.59 percentage points and only had 111 members with 39.3 percent of the vote. The Panellinio Sosialistiko Kinima (PASOK) led by Papandreou , on the other hand, was able to increase its share of the vote by 8.27 percentage points to 46.88 percent, and gained 170 seats in parliament due to the increased proportional representation . Papandreou then formed his third cabinet.
