Gerasimos Dionisiou Arsenis ( Greek Γεράσιμος Αρσένης , born May 30, 1931 in Argostoli , Kefalonia ; † April 19, 2016 ) was a Greek politician .

biography

Arsenis, who was a member of PASOK , was appointed Minister-President Andreas Papandreou 's Minister of Economics in his first cabinet on July 5, 1982 , and on March 27, 1984, he also assumed the office of Minister of Finance. He kept these offices in the subsequent second government of Papandreou until July 26, 1985. Konstantinos Simitis was succeeded as Minister of Economics , while the Ministry of Finance was taken over by Dimitrios Tsovolas.

Between 1993 and 1996 he was Minister of Defense in Papandreou's third cabinet and held this post in the government of Prime Minister Konstantinos Simitis, which was in office until September 1996.

In the second cabinet of Simitis, he was Minister for National Education and Religious Affairs between September 1996 and 2000.

Angelis was married to the politician Louka Katseli , who was Minister for Economy, Competitiveness and the Merchant Navy in the government of Giorgos Andrea Papandreou from October 2009 to June 2011 .
