The Konstantinos Simitis III cabinet was formed on April 13, 2000 in Greece by Konstantinos Simitis and replaced the second Simitis cabinet . The cabinet existed until March 10, 2004, when it was replaced by the Kostas Karamanlis I cabinet .

In the previous parliamentary election of April 8, 2000 , the ruling Panellinio Sosialistiko Kinima (PASOK) recorded a narrow gain of 2.3 percentage points compared to the parliamentary election of September 22, 1996 and got 43.79 percent (1996: 41.49 percent). Due to the current proportional representation with 158 seats (1996: 162 seats) it still received an absolute majority. However, the opposition Nea Dimokratia (ND), led by Kostas Karamanlis , also gained 4.62 percentage points and thus achieved 42.74 (1996: 38.12 percent) and 125 seats (1996: 108 seats) in parliament .
