Marietta Giannakou ( Greek Μαριορή "Μαριέττα" Γιαννάκου , born June 5, 1951 in Geraki ) is a Greek politician of the conservative Nea Dimokratia .
Life
Giannakou studied medicine at the University of Athens . She held several important functions at the European People's Party , from 1992 to 2000 she was Vice-President of the European Union of Christian Democrats .
From April 11, 1990 to August 8, 1991, she was the successor of Georgios Merikas Minister of Health, Welfare and Social Security in Konstantinos Mitsotaki's cabinet . From 2004 to 2007 she was Minister for National Education and Religious Affairs in the Kostas Karamanlis I cabinet .
From 1984 to 1990 Giannakou belonged to the European Parliament for the first time , then again from 1999 to 2000 and again since 2009. She was also a member of the Greek Parliament from 1993 to 2009 with an interruption from 1999 to 2000.
