Georgios Alogoskoufis ( Greek Γεώργιος Αλογοσκούφης , also George Alogoskoufis; born October 17, 1955 in Athens ) is a Greek economist and politician of the Nea Dimokratia .

Algoskoufis studied at the London School of Economics , where he received his PhD in 1981. From 1984 to 1992 he taught at the University of London ( Birkbeck College ). Since 1990 he has been a professor at the Athens University of Economics .

Alogoskoufis was a member of the Greek parliament between 1996 and 2009 . When Kostas Karamanlis was elected Prime Minister of Greece in 2004, he appointed Alogoskoufis as Minister of Economy and Finance, an office that he held until January 2009.

He is married to Dika Agapitidou and has three children with her.
