The Välijoki ( Finnish for "intermediate river") is a river in the Finnish landscape of southern Ostrobothnia .
The Välijoki forms the middle section of the Ähtävänjoki river system. It forms the outflow from the Lappajärvi , flows over a distance of 15 km in a north-northwest direction and flows into Lake Evijärvi . The Hanhikoski hydropower plant, which was completed in 1969, is about halfway . It has an installed capacity of 1.4 MW and uses a gradient of 7.1 m with a flow rate of 2 × 12.5 m³ / s.
