Evripidis Stylianidis ( Greek Ευριπίδης Στυλιανίδης , born April 8, 1966 in Maronia near Komotini ) is a Greek politician of the Nea Dimokratia party . He was Minister of Education and Minister of Transport and Communication in Kostas Karamanlis ' cabinets and Minister of the Interior in Samaras' cabinet .
biography
Stylianidis studied law from 1984 to 1989 at the Democritus University of Thrace in Komotini and from 1991 to 1994 at the University of Hamburg ; he has a doctorate in constitutional law . In addition to studying in Hamburg, he worked at the Greek Consulate General there.
After his military service in 1994/95 he was an advisor to the party chairman of the conservative Nea Dimokratia in matters of youth and cultural relations. From 1997 to 1998 he taught public law at the Law Faculty of the University of Athens . From 1997 to 2000 Stylianidis worked as a researcher at the European Public Law Center (EPLC).
Political career
Stylianidis was nominated as a candidate for the New Democracy for the European Parliament in 1994.
In 1996 he ran for the Greek parliament , but his party could not win a seat in his constituency in the Rhodope Mountains . He was elected MP in 2000 and re-elected in 2004.
He was a member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and Vice-President of the Greece-Brazil and Greece-Germany parliamentary groups.
Ministerial post
On September 19, 2007 Evripidis Stylianidis became Minister of Education in the government of Kostas Karamanlis . After a government reshuffle, he became Minister of Transport and Communications in January 2009. He held this office until his party's election defeat in October 2009.
From June 21, 2012 to June 25, 2014 Stylianidis was Minister of the Interior in the Samara government .
