Giannis Vroutsis ( Greek Γιάννης Βρούτσης , born June 1, 1963 in Athens ) is a Greek politician. He was Minister of Labor in the Samaras cabinet from 2012 to 2015 .
Vroutsis' family comes from the Cycladic islands of Naxos and Amorgos . Giannis Vroutsis studied at the Economics Department of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Political Sciences of the National and Kapodistrian Universities of Athens and completed a postgraduate degree at the Pantion University of Athens .
He worked in the private sector for several years and then in the Ministry of Finance.
He began his political career as an activist for the youth organization ONNED of the conservative Nea Dimokratia . In 1990 he was elected to the municipal council of the Athens suburb of Vyronas . In the following years he was involved in committees of local and regional government, especially at the prefecture level, and was chairman of the Greek Society for Local Development and Local Government from 2004 to 2007.
In the parliamentary elections in 2007 he was elected for the first time as a member of the Nea Dimokratia in the Greek parliament . In the 2009 elections , in May 2012 and in June 2012 he was re-elected.
From June 21, 2012 to January 26, 2015, he was Minister of Labor, Social Security and Welfare in the Samara cabinet .
