The Democritus University of Thrace ( Greek Δημοκρίτειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θράκης Dimokritio Panepistimio Thrace ) is a state university in western Thrace (northern Greece ) with around 13,000 students and a main location in Komotini and Orestiada in Xanthi , Alexandroupoli , Alexandroupoli . The university is a member of the network of Balkan universities .
The University of Thrace was founded in 1973 and is named after the ancient Greek philosopher Democritus . The university is now divided into 2 schools with a total of 18 departments.
