The Open University of Patras ( Greek Ελληνικό Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Elliniko Anikto Panepistimio , ΕΑΠ for short , EAP also Hellenic Open University or HOU ) is a Greek state university in Patras . Like the British Open University , it offers face-to-face and distance learning in various subjects and enables both undergraduate and postgraduate studies .
history
The distance university was founded by law in 1992, but the first 5000 students were not accepted until 1999; in the same year the first 15 scientific employees were also employed.
In May 2016 around 16,000 students were enrolled in undergraduate and 17,000 in postgraduate studies; a total of 32 subjects were offered; the number of graduates was around 28,000.
Study and Research
The distance university is divided into four institutes: the School of Humanities , the School of Social Science , the School of Engineering and the School of Applied Arts .
For postgraduate degrees, the distance university cooperates with the Wroclaw University of Economics and Business .
The distance university participates in the Leonardo da Vinci program and the Lifelong Learning program of the EU Commission and is a member of the Erasmus program .
