The University of Economics in Wrocław ( Uniwersytet Ekonomiczny we Wrocławiu , official English self-designation Wroclaw University of Economics and Business ; until May 2008 Akademia Ekonomiczna im. Oskara Langego we Wrocławiu - Oskar-Lange-Wirtschaftsakademie Breslau ) is a state university with its seat at Ulica Komandorska Breslau (Wrocław) and a branch in Jelenia Góra .

structure

The university comprises four faculties: industrial engineering ; Economics (until 2006 economics); Administration , IT and Finance (until 2007 Administration and IT); Regional economy and tourism (campus in Jelenia Góra ).

The range of courses includes 6 subjects with 47 areas of focus. Complete courses in English are also offered. Currently (as of April 2, 2009) the university employs 743 teachers (including 136 professors) who teach 18,174 students (including 69 foreigners). As is usual at Polish universities, “evening” and distance learning courses are also offered. The university has the right to award doctorates and habilitation .

history

The college was founded in 1947 as a private “commercial college” (Wyższa Szkoła Handlowa) . In 1950 it was nationalized and renamed "Business School" (Wyższa Szkoła Ekonomiczna) . In 1974 there was another name change to Akademia Ekonomiczna ("Business Academy ") and the name was given after the economist Oskar Lange (1904-1965). It has had its current name since May 6, 2008 (without the addition "Oskar Lange").
