Hans-Christian Pfohl

Hans-Christian Pfohl (born March 14, 1942 in Gablonz an der Neisse ) is a German economist, professor emeritus for business administration and former head of the Department of Management & Logistics at the TU Darmstadt . Pfohl continues to be active at the TU Darmstadt with the supply chain and network management unit he heads .

Life

After graduating from high school, Hans-Christian Pfohl studied industrial engineering at the TU Darmstadt from 1962 and graduated in 1968 with a degree in industrial engineering. After completing his studies, he stayed as a research assistant at the TU Darmstadt. Here he received his doctorate in 1971 as a Doctor of Politicarum

After working as a lecturer at the TU Darmstadt and completing his habilitation in 1975, Pfohl was appointed full professor at the University of Essen in 1975 , at the chair for organization and planning.

Hans-Christian Pfohl has been teaching business administration at the Technical University of Darmstadt since 1982 and was head of the Corporate Management & Logistics department until March 31, 2011. Pfohl has headed the Supply Chain and Network Management unit he founded at TU Darmstadt since April 1, 2011 . Here he is still active in research and continues to lead various practical projects.

He turned down appointments to Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf .

Since 1997 he has been a professor at the Chinese-German College of Tongji University in Shanghai , China . There he is the scientific director of the Global Supply Chain Management (GSCM) chair.

Awards

In 1996 Pfohl was awarded an honorary doctorate (Dr. hc) from the University of Veszprém , Hungary . Hans-Christian Pfohl is one of the founders of scientific logistics research in Germany. He has already received several awards for his work in the field of logistics and logistics management. In 2006 Pfohl was inducted into the Logistics Hall of Fame . Since 2008 he has been an honorary member for life of the Federal Logistics Association . Here he also received the golden badge of honor in 2008. In 2009 he was made an ELA fellow.

In December 2009, Pfohl received the Deutsche Post award as the most innovative senior scientist for his “Logbook” project. In the laudation, Peter Klaus pointed out that Pfohl had always recognized and occupied innovative trends early on: in 1969, Pfohl was the first German-speaking scientist to use the term "logistics" in a German-language publication ( Alles für den Nachschub ( see below )) used in a business context. Furthermore, at the beginning of the 1990s, Pfohl recognized the future topic of ecology in logistics, which is only arriving in practice today.

In 2001, Pfohl and Hans-Peter Buse received the Award for Excellence from the International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management for the article Inter-organizational logistics systems in flexible production networks: an organizational capabilities perspective . In addition, his book Logistiksysteme was recognized as the best logistics textbook.

In 2016 he was appointed honorary chairman of the Scientific Commission for Logistics in the Association of University Lecturers for Business Administration (VHB).

In 2011 Pfohl was awarded the Hessian Order of Merit on ribbon by the Prime Minister Volker Bouffier . He was honored for outstanding services to the state of Hesse and for his extraordinary commitment. In the laudation, his services to the establishment of logistics science in German-speaking countries and the transfer of knowledge into practice were honored.

In 2017 Pfohl was awarded a further honorary doctorate (Dr. hc) at the Wroclaw University of Economics , Poland .

His textbooks on logistics systems and logistics management , which are also available in Polish and Chinese translation, are widely used .
