Evangelos Apostolakis (* 1957 in Rethymno / Crete ) is a former admiral of the Greek Navy and Chief of Honor of the staff. He was Minister of Defense in the Cabinet of Alexis Tsipras II .

career

Apostolakis graduated from the Naval Cadets School, the Submarine Disaster Management School of Submarine Disaster Management, the Amphibious Warfare School (USA), the Advanced Mine Warfare School (Belgium) and the Naval War School.

From 1998 to 2001 he was Commander of Submarine Disaster Management (CIS). He has worked at the Aegean Maritime Administration (NDA) and at the Crete Naval Port (NK) as Chief Inspector, at STRIKEFORNATO as Deputy COS, at the General Staff as Second Branch Manager, at Fleet Headquarters as Deputy Chief and Chief of Staff worked.

On March 7, 2013 he took over the duties of Chief of Naval Staff. As of September 15, 2015, by resolution of the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense KYSEA, he took over the management of the Greek armed forces as Chief of Staff and succeeded General Michael Costarakos.

On January 13, 2019, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced that he would take over the post of Defense Minister in place of Panos Kammenos and hand over the duties of Chief of General Staff to Lieutenant Colonel Constantine. He accepted this office on January 14th and remained there until July 9th, 2019.

He is married and has two children. One of them is TV chef and candidate chef Yiannis Apostolakis.
