(3042) Zelinsky ( 1981 EF 10 ; 1975 TY 1 ; 1975 VL ; 1982 TO 1 ) is an asteroid of the main inner belt that was discovered on March 1, 1981 by the American astronomer John Bus at the Siding Spring Observatory nearby from Coonabarabran , New South Wales in Australia ( IAU code 260).

(3042) Zelinsky was named after the mathematician David Zelinsky named the at Brown University in Providence ( Rhode Iceland operates) and as a student of the California Institute of Technology at the Planet-Crossing Asteroid Survey participated.
