Margaret Colin (born May 26, 1958 in New York City ) is an American actress .

Life and accomplishments

Colin is the daughter of a police officer. She grew up on Long Island and graduated from Baldwin High School .

Colin made her debut in the television series The Edge of Night , in which she played the role of Paige Madison from 1979 to 1980 . From 1981 to 1983 she was in the television series As the World Turns . In the crime comedy Dangerous Girlfriend (1986) she played alongside Jeff Daniels and Melanie Griffith .

In the comedy The Man of Her Dreams (1991), Colin played the role of actress Robyn Graves , who first had a relationship with psychiatrist Dr. Alex Tremor ( Jeff Daniels ) and then connects with Grace ( Frances McDormand ). In the science fiction film Independence Day (1996) she played one of the bigger roles on the side of Bill Pullman , Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith . In the thriller Confident Enemy (1997) she played the role of Sheila O'Meara , the wife of Tom O'Meara ( Harrison Ford ). She won the Saturn Award in 2000 for her role in the television series Now and Again . In the comedy First Daughter - Date with Obstacles (2004) she starred opposite Michael Keaton and Katie Holmes .

Colin has been married to actor Justin Deas since 1988 , whom she met while filming As the World Turns . They have two sons together and live in Upper Montclair, New Jersey .

She is on the board of Feminists for Life , an anti-abortion organization .
