Shades of Blue is an American crime series directed by Adi Hasak . The main roles are played by Jennifer Lopez , Ray Liotta and Drea de Matteo . The series has been produced by Nuyorican Productions, EGTV Productions, Ryan Seacrest Productions, Jack Roman Productions, Adi TV Studios and Universal Television for NBC since 2016 . It premiered on January 7, 2016 following The Blacklist on NBC.
At the beginning of April 2018 it was announced that the third season starting in June 2018 will be the end of the series.

New York policewoman Harlee Santos is a single parent struggling with financial problems. For her and her daughter Christine, the police team is like a surrogate family. However, those of Lt. Matt Wozniak-run cops are heavily involved in criminal machinations. When the FBI's corruption department finds out about them and Harlee promises impunity for a spying job, she has to choose between a better life for her daughter and her loyalty to the other corrupt colleagues.

Production and broadcast

The development of the television series was first announced in 2014. In February 2015, NBC ordered a first season with 13 episodes. At the same time as the series was announced, the main role was cast with Jennifer Lopez . American television presenter Ryan Seacrest is executive producer of the series . Filming for the first season began in New York City in June 2015 .
On October 28, 2015, it was announced that the series will air on January 14, 2016. It occupies the broadcasting slot of the series The Player , which only started in autumn 2015 , whose episode order was reduced to nine episodes. A short time later, the start was brought forward to January 7, 2016. The premiere was followed by 8.55 million viewers and thus celebrated a strong start. But already in the following week, the series lost almost two million viewers.
On February 5, 2016, the series was extended by a second season, which will air on NBC from March 5, 2017. After broadcasting only two episodes of the second season, the series was extended for a third season.
