Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (born November 6, 1972 in Laredo , Texas ) is an American film director and producer .

Life

Gomez-Rejon was born in Laredo , Texas near the Mexican-US border in 1972 , where he grew up. Gomez-Rejon earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York University and received a Master of Fine Arts from the American Film Institute in 1997 , where he started at the Conservatory there in 1995.

During his first professional experience in the film sector, Gomez-Rejon worked as a personal assistant to Martin Scorsese , Nora Ephron , Robert De Niro and Alejandro González Iñárritu . He made his directorial debut in a television series between 2010 and 2012 in eight episodes of Glee . From 2011 to 2014, Gomez-Rejon directed a total of 12 episodes of the American Horror Story television series . In 2014 he made his directorial debut in the feature film Wait until it gets dark . His film Me and Earl and the Girl , which came out in theaters in 2015, won the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature Film at the Sundance Film Festival that same year . Gomez-Rejon is also directing the film Edison . The film, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon in the leading roles, is slated for release in US cinemas on December 22, 2017.
