Andrew Thomas McCarthy (born November 29, 1962 in New York City ) is an American actor and director .

Life

McCarthy grew up in Westfield, New Jersey and began acting at the age of 15. He studied drama at New York University . He had his first leading role in 1983 in the film Class . He had better known appearances as a member of the Brat Pack in films such as St. Elmo's Fire and Pretty in Pink .

For a long time, due to his youthful appearance, he was subscribed to roles of teenage lovers in romantic comedies. In the 1990s he succeeded in moving into the serious character subject after the French film director Claude Chabrol had him in 1990 for the leading roles in his films Stille Tage in Clichy and Dr. M had engaged.
