Michelle Claire Ryan (born April 22, 1984 in Enfield , Middlesex ) is a British actress of Irish descent.

life and career

Michelle Ryan was born in Enfield, Middlesex, and attended Chace Community School there. At the age of ten she became a member of the local theater company.

In 1999 she was selected for her long-running role as Zoe Slater in the popular soap opera EastEnders . In 2005 she announced that she was leaving the series to focus on film and theater acting. Ryan later auditioned for the popular Doctor Who series to replace the outgoing Billie Piper as the Doctor's companion ; the role eventually went to Freema Agyeman . In 2006 she starred in the independent film Cashback and auditioned for the role of Vesper Lynd in the James Bond film Casino Royale ; but this role went to Eva Green . In June and July 2007, she served as Jekyll's assistant Katherine Reimer in the BBC - miniseries Jekyll to see. Also in 2007, Ryan starred as Jamie Sommers in NBC's short-lived series Bionic Woman , a remake of the popular 1970s series The Seven Million Dollar Woman . From September to December 2008 she starred in the BBC fantasy series Merlin in the supporting role of Nimueh. In the 2009 Easter special Planet of the Dead of the Doctor Who series , she took on the role of Lady Christina de Souza. A few more film and television appearances followed. In 2013 she appeared in several episodes of the series Covert Affairs and in 2018 in the miniseries Lady Christina .
