action

Harry, a British arms dealer, sleeps with the prostitute Rena, who unloads his gun unnoticed. Harry's bodyguard Ewan is an MI6 agent. Together they drive to a bank and transport a suitcase containing the Semtex plastic explosive . You are followed by two terrorists, Ash and Ibrahim. Ash starts a firefight in the bank, injuring Ewan and killing Harry when he finds that his gun is not loaded. Ash leaves the bank with the Semtex, slightly injured. Ash sews the Semtex into a jacket with a combined explosives belt and hands it to Adel, who goes into a London restaurant and blows himself up. In addition to numerous restaurant visitors, members of a committee that has energy interests in the Middle East and supports the Iraq war also die . Ewan is tasked by his superiors - Charlotte and Scott - with finding and eliminating the terrorists. Agent Mark will report to him for the unofficial assignment. Ewan and Mark seek out Rena, who admits under threat of violence that she removed the cartridges from Harry's gun for a fee. The three of them look for the client, Paul, in his house, with Rena acting as a decoy. When Ewan and Mark enter the house, Rena is stabbed to death by Paul, who fails in an attempt to detonate an explosive vest and is shot by Ewan.

In a cafe, Ash meets Kate, his former girlfriend. They met at university, where they are studying law. There, Ash meets Nabil, a Muslim extremist who invites Ash to join a student group under his chairmanship. In this group, Nabil spreads anti-Western propaganda and radicalized Ash. This separates from Kate and breaks off his studies. Nabil orders Ash to kill Sergeant Glen Conlan. In the Middle East, he was a private in the reserve army and is said to have tortured Muslims. During the attack on Conlan, the latter initially succeeds in killing the attacker Yussif; however, then Ash and Amin kidnap Conlan from his farm and kill him on camera. Previously, Amin killed Conlan's wife and baby, which Ash met with reluctance.

A card phone found on Paul leads Ewan and Mark to an abandoned house where a terrorist is said to be. Ewan puts the man they find there, sets him on fire and lets him burn. Ewan takes his jacket with him. Ewan and Mark drive to a large housing estate where they are noticed by Ash and another terrorist. Mark pursues and shoots him, while Ash escapes on a motorcycle. Charlotte informs Ewan and Mark that MI6 learned of the covert operation and is now pursuing them. Mark later tries to shoot Ewan in a hotel room, a fight ensues and Mark is killed.

After Ash started a relationship with Kate again, he separates from her again and Nabil instructs him to eliminate the head of a think tank who is active in the fight against terrorism. Ash explains the reasons for his impending attack in a video and then drives to a hotel where the wedding of the target's daughter is taking place. There is a fight between him and Ewan. Shortly before Ash manages to detonate the bomb, he is shot by Ewan. Ewan leaves the hotel and watches men in suits transporting a suitcase to the hotel - a few seconds later a bomb detonates in the hotel lobby and kills the target person. Ewan finds a locker key in the wrongly accused's jacket. In the locker he finds a folder and a video camera. Recordings show the man killed by Ewan, who reveals himself to be MI6 undercover agent Hussein Malik. The envelope also includes a lighter that Ewan noticed while working with his superior Charlotte. A month later, Ewan meets Charlotte, accusing her of collaborating with Nabil and intending to dismiss Scott in order to take his position. Ewan stages her suicide by cutting Charlotte's wrists and placing Malik's papers next to her.

criticism

The reviews were average to positive. In the Internet Movie Database it was awarded an average of 6.3 stars out of 10. The film magazine Cinema sums it up: "Told and dirty, the ripper offers a daring story, but also a lot of tension". Cleanskin is a "rough political thriller with a sleeve." The film service also gave a positive verdict: "Hard thriller that argues with the omnipresent fear of terrorism in Great Britain, at least trying not to lapse too blatantly into black and white painting."
