Joely Kim Richardson (* 9. January 1965 in London ) is a mainly in the United States working British actress .

life and career

Joely Richardson's career began in the mid-1980s with a small role in Wetherby . She was discovered by Disney Studios in 1996 and played the lead role in the family comedy 101 Dalmatians . In 2004 she became known to German television viewers with the series Nip / Tuck , which was awarded a Golden Globe Award . As the wife of doctor Dr. Sean McNamara (played by Dylan Walsh ) tries in the series to master her continuously troubled marriage. At the end of the fourth season, she left the series due to an illness of her daughter, but returned in 2007 after her recovery for 15 of 22 episodes as part of the fifth season. In the fourth season of the British historical series The Tudors , she portrayed Queen Catherine Parr . In Roland Emmerich's film Anonymus (2011), Richardson played the young Queen Elizabeth I of England .

With her then husband Tim Bevan , Richardson had their daughter Daisy in 1992 , who is also an actress. Richardson comes from a family of actors, so she is the daughter of Tony Richardson and Vanessa Redgrave and thus the sister of Natasha Richardson . Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson are her maternal grandparents. Richardson is also the niece of Lynn Redgrave and Corin Redgrave , the cousin of Jemma Redgrave and the sister-in-law of Liam Neeson .

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
