Emerald City - The Dark World of Oz (Original title: Emerald City ) is an American television series by Matthew Arnold and Josh Friedman , which is loosely based on the novel The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum . The series was commissioned by the broadcasting station NBC in April 2015, and after multiple production difficulties that even led to the project being suspended in the meantime, it finally premiered on January 6, 2017. In early May 2017, the broadcaster announced the discontinuation of the series after one season and ten episodes.

A German-language first broadcast has been on the pay station RTL Passion since January 3, 2018 . The series is also available on Amazon Prime.

After being transported to the Land of Oz by a tornado from Lucas, Kansas , 20-year-old Dorothy Gale sets out to find the Wizard of Oz, unaware that she will fulfill a prophecy that will affect everyone's life will change forever.
