reception

Age rating

In Germany, the film was approved by the FSK from the age of 16. The statement of reasons for the release states that the story is mostly told calmly and only slowly builds up tension and horror, whereby the intensive color and light design is central. The further the story progresses, the more drastic splatter elements come into play. These cruel images and the atmosphere of madness and ruin could overwhelm children and young people under the age of 16.

Reviews

The film has so far won over 86 percent of all Rotten Tomatoes critics .

Michael Meyns of the Gilde deutscher Filmkunsttheater writes, while HP Lovecraft keeps the origins and effects of the meteorite and especially the colors vague in his story, cult director Richard Stanley has to visualize them in a cinematic medium that is far less suitable for ambivalence: “His development develops over time Version of the color from space through this to a pure play of colors. Fluorescent, hallucinogenic, psychedelic plays of color waft across the canvas and let the world and the people remaining in it melt away. "
