A Wrinkle in Time (Original Title: A Wrinkle in Time ) is a Canadian fantasy - television film from the year 2003 . The film is a film adaptation of the novel " Die Zeitfalte " ("A Wrinkle in Time") by Madeleine L'Engle from the years 1959/1960. It was originally produced as a miniseries by Walt Disney Television and then aired as a two-parter. In addition, there are one-piece versions of different lengths. The film was shot in Richmond and Vancouver . A remake called The Time Puzzle (original title: A Wrinkle in Time ) came to the cinema in March 2018.

The astrophysicist Dr. Jack Murry suddenly disappears without a trace. His children Meg and Charles Wallace go in search of him. They discover that their father was teleported to the planet Camazotz as a result of secret experiments . The children go there with their friend Calvin to get their father back. They are led by Mrs. Wasist, Mrs. Wer and Mrs. Which.

Meg and Charles fight on Camazotz against the organization Central Central Intelligence . Thanks to Charles' instinct, they find the scientist in a prison camp. The subsequent escape is thwarted by the man with the red eyes, he takes Charles Wallace prisoner. Dr. Murry, Meg and Calvin manage to leave the planet.

Annoyed that they had to leave her brother behind, Meg returns to Camazotz alone. She succeeds in freeing Charles and possibly the whole planet.

Reviews

Prisoners of the time received mostly bad reviews:

“Many Christian motifs from Madeleine L'Engle's novel were deleted - which the author disliked. [Conclusion:] »Technically solid, but told too lifelessly« "

John J. Puccio wrote in the DVD review that the pace of the film was typical of television films.

The author of the book was also critical in an interview with Newsweek :

"'I glanced at the film [...] I expected it to be bad, and it is.'"

Nominations

In 2004 the film was nominated for the Casting Society of America Award and for the Leo Award .

In 2005 the film was nominated for the Saturn Award . In addition, David Dorfman was nominated for the Young Artist Award and Susan Shilliday for the Writers Guild of America Award .
