Astrophysicists are researchers who deal with astrophysics , i.e. the application of physical methods to problems or the exploration of the cosmos .

Astrophysicists typically have a degree in physics and then specialized further. Since astrophysics is a subject that is almost exclusively located at universities and research institutes , astrophysicists are mostly physicists with a doctorate .

The transition between astrophysicists and astronomers is fluid.
