Renée Taylor

Renée Taylor (* 19th March 1933 in New York City as Renee Wexler ) is an American actress and author . Her internationally best-known role is that of Sylvia Fine , mother of the title character Fran Fine in the television series The Nanny, played by Fran Drescher .

Life

Renée Taylor was born Renée Wexler in 1933 in the Bronx , New York . In 1965 she married the actor Joseph Bologna , who died in 2017. Their son Gabriel Bologna also works as an actor. Taylor comes from a Jewish family and has Russian ancestors.

Career

Together with her husband, Taylor wrote the play Lovers and Other Strangers , which became a huge hit on Broadway and was made into a film in 1970 under the direction of the two authors. Taylor and Bologna received an Oscar nomination for the script in 1971. As an actress, Taylor had various appearances as a comedian on The Jack Paar Show , the forerunner of the Tonight Show, from 1959 . In the following acting career, Renée Taylor was also often seen in comedic roles and films. In 1961, she was in the Jerry Lewis film The office idiot in front of the camera. Directed by Mel Brooks , she played Eva Braun in the hit comedy Spring for Hitler . In 1970 she again played a supporting role in the film comedy Nobody kills as badly as I do alongside Walter Matthau . The following year the actress and her husband Joseph Bologna appeared in the television film Made for Each Other . The partly autobiographical script came again from the pen of Taylor and Bologna. The couple received an Emmy for this.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Renée Taylor had numerous guest appearances in various television series such as chief physician Dr. Westphall , Harrys Nest or Caroline in the City .

Her role as Sylvia Fine in the US sitcom The Nanny brought her even greater international attention . She embodied the stereotypical, Jewish mother of the leading actress Fran Drescher from 1993 to 1999. She then played the dubbing voice of the female turtle in the original English version of Dr. Dolittle 2 heard. In 2004, Taylor starred alongside Jude Law and Susan Sarandon in the British-American production Alfie .

The best-known German dubbing voice of Renée Taylor comes from the actress Marianne Wischmann .
