Caroline in the City is an American sitcom whose production began in 1994 and was discontinued after the fourth season in 1999. The main roles include Lea Thompson as cartoonist Caroline Duffy , the author of a cartoon of the same name, and Malcolm Gets as colorist Richard Karinsky .

Caroline Duffy is a lively, bright young woman who makes her living drawing the cartoon series Caroline in the City and owns a cat named Salty. The cynical Richard Karinsky describes himself as a "serious artist", but paints Caroline's comics for financial reasons. The dancer Annie Spadaro ( Amy Pietz ) works on the musical " Cats "; as an open-hearted neighbor and good friend, she regularly uses Caroline's refrigerator. Del Cassidy ( Eric Lutes ) is Caroline's initial friend and owner of a greeting card company where clumsy Charlie ( Andrew Lauer ) works as a roller-skating courier.

Only after three years, many near moments, some relationships on the part of Caroline and a wedding on the part of Richard and the Italian Julia ( Sofia Milos ), the two confess their love. However, due to differences on the subject of offspring, Richard and Caroline separate again. Richard goes to Rome and only by chance learns that Caroline is about to marry an old school friend. The series ends when Richard appears on a gallery in the church during the wedding and Caroline looks up at him. There is no resolution of the arc of suspense , as the series was canceled prematurely.

  • Caroline in the City shares a series universe with Frasier ; the characters Niles and Daphne have a guest appearance on the episode The Bad Back (Season 1, Episode 4).
  • In Die Zimtziege (Season 1, Episode 6) Annie briefly meets Chandler Bing from the series Friends . Caroline has a guest appearance there again in the episode Baby - Alone in New York ( Season 2 , Episode 6).
