This episode list contains all episodes of the American television series Friends , sorted by the US American first broadcast . Between 1994 and 2004 a total of 236 episodes were created in ten seasons, each around 22 minutes in length. There are also two special episodes, which are a compilation of all previous episodes. In the English original, with the exception of the first and last episode, they all begin with “The One…” (German: “The one [episode]…”).

The friends Phoebe, Monica, her brother Ross, Joey and Chandler sit, as so often, in a small café in New York , the Central Perk , and talk about everyday problems. Ross suffers from the fact that his wife, Carol, recently left him for another woman. When Monica's friend Rachel comes into the café in a wedding dress, she reveals to the friends that she has left her groom in front of the altar and that she is now looking for an apartment. Since Monica, whose current date doesn't end in a relationship, has a room free, Rachel can live with her. Rachel also takes a job as a waitress at Central Perk, only to get by without her parents' financial support for the first time. Chandler and Joey meanwhile help Ross move into a new apartment.

Ross learns that Carol is pregnant by him and wants to raise the baby with her partner Susan. But he should be included in the relationship as far as he wishes. Meanwhile, Monica is stressed and pays even more attention to order than usual because her parents come to visit her. Since they have different ideas about careers and relationships than Monica and more likely Ross' previous lifestyle advocates, an argument is difficult to avoid. Rachel wants to give her engagement ring back to her ex-fiancé Barry. She has to find out that Barry is already in a relationship again.

Chandler starts smoking again after years of abstinence , despite all the positive feedback from his friends . Only Monica's new lover manages to stop Chandler from smoking. The relationship between him and Monica does not last long, however, as she does not feel happy with him, which affects the friends more than Monica herself. Phoebe is meanwhile wrongly transferred money to her account, which she cannot cope with because she is wrong feels preferred. When she gives the money to someone in need, she finds a thumb and receives an even larger sum of money as a reward.

Ross is longing for his ex-wife Carol and reveals to his friends that his relationship with Carol has been his only one so far. Chandler and Joey try to distract Ross by going to an ice hockey game with him , but this ends in a hospital stay as Ross takes the puck. Rachel also has a slack as she doubts her decision to leave Barry after getting her first salary and meeting old friends. To cheer her up again, Monica and Phoebe hold a women’s evening, where they eat pizza and watch a naked man in a neighboring apartment, which cheers Rachel up again.

Chandler and Phoebe want to break up with their respective partners, but they can't bring themselves to it. To make things easier, they decide to tell each other about the breakup. Joey and Monica are looking for new partners and come across a lucky coincidence: Joey wants to get together with his ex-girlfriend Angela, whose current boyfriend is conveniently on Monica. Ross helps Rachel with her first laundry while trying to get to her, which leads to the first kiss. Rachel's white lingerie is now completely pink because of a red sock.

Joey has a great chance to star in an Al Pacino film after being recruited by an agency as a result of a play . When it turns out that Joey is supposed to double Al Pacino's bottom in a shower scene , he tries to attract attention with a particularly expressive representation. Meanwhile, Chandler tries to convince his nymphomaniac friend Aurora to leave her other three lovers and only be with him, but Aurora refuses, which is why he breaks up with her. Rachel cleans up the shared apartment, which Monica does not convince in all aspects.

When there is a power outage in New York, Chandler and model Jill Goodacre are trapped in the anteroom of a bank. Ross realizes he has to leave his relationship with Carol behind and sees his chance to finally ask Rachel out on a date. When searching for the owner of a runaway cat, Rachel meets Paolo, with whom she starts a superficial relationship, not knowing anything about Ross' intention.

Monica and Ross learn that their grandma is dying. Together with other family members, they are in the hospital, where she ultimately dies after an initial misdiagnosis. The family organizes the funeral, which all friends attend. Chandler learns that some colleagues think he is homosexual. When his friends confess that when they met him they also thought he was homosexual, Chandler looks for the reasons.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, but all six friends cannot go to their families for a variety of reasons. In order to have a nice Thanksgiving celebration, Monica invites everyone to her home. She only gradually becomes aware of the difficulties that she has faced with the invitation. Everyone has special requests so that the food tastes just as it does at home. In addition, the friends lock themselves out of the apartment after they rush to the roof of the house to look at a large balloon accidentally released by the underdog .

The friends originally only wanted to celebrate New Year's Eve in a small group. But since everyone wants someone to kiss at midnight, all but Ross bring a new or old flame. In order to get over Carol, Ross bought a capuchin monkey named Marcel and brings it with him for New Year's Eve. Monica disagrees with this because of the animal's unclean behavior. Despite the guests, there is only a surprising kiss from Joey and Chandler at midnight. This is particularly unexpected for Phoebe, as she has to cope with the hard separation from David, who is moving to Minsk to do research .

Chandler's mother, Nora, a successful writer of raunchy romance novels, comes to visit. Rachel is excited and starts writing her own book. Ross gets drunk at dinner together to survive Rachel's whispers of love with Paolo, and at a thoughtless moment he kisses Nora. Chandler, who is anyway not on good terms with his mother, reacts angrily and ultimately speaks to his mother for a long time.

Carol learns that she is expecting a boy. Ross does not want to know the gender of the child until it is born, but this fails because Rachel chats. Paolo gets a massage after a recommendation from Phoebe, but assumes a "massage with a happy ending". After Rachel finds out about this, she breaks up with him instead of going away with him for the weekend. While Ross now sees his chance, Rachel doesn't want to know anything about men for the time being. After an order from her aunt that was canceled at short notice, Monica has a lot of lasagnes that she wants to get rid of. Both the now hated Paolo and the vegetarian Susan get one.

Phoebe is in a relationship with the psychologist Roger. However, since he analyzes a lot, he makes friends one by one into enemies. When Phoebe tells him this, he analyzes this too, so that she ends their relationship with a heavy heart. With Ross still having strong feelings for Carol, his date quickly runs off. On a double date, Chandler and Joey accidentally meet their former girlfriend Janice, with whom Chandler has had an on / off relationship for many years. Rachel, Phoebe and Monica unintentionally start a fire in their apartment in which they want to burn memories of their exes. When the fire brigade successfully extinguished the fire, they can get hold of the phone numbers of some firefighters.

When Chandler is offered a promotion, he realizes that he actually doesn't really like his job. However, after quitting his job, he finds that he doesn't know what he really wants to do. His old boss continues to woo him and lures him with multiple increases to his old salary and his own office, so Chandler ultimately agrees and gets his old job back. Monica is also working on her career. In order to get a job as a cook, she prepares a feast for a restaurant owner, who, however, appears “high” to the meal and has little interest in Monica's delicacies. Ross is dating a colleague from work. Further intimacies initially fail due to Ross' lack of competence in dirty talk , which is why Joey gives him tutoring.

Chandler and Joey believe they discovered Phoebe serving in a coffee shop. However, it is Phoebe's twin sister Ursula. Chandler has to have a discharge interview at work for the first time, but sees himself unable to do so and instead dates Nina, who is to be discharged. That comes to an end when Nina learns about the lies she kept at work. Carol attends a childbirth preparation class with Susan and Ross , which leads to disputes because the class is designed for couples and neither of them wants to stand back.

Joey is sad because Ursula simply left him without actually breaking up. To rebuild Joey, Phoebe pretends to be Ursula and officially breaks up with Joey. After explaining the reasons for their separation to him, the two kiss goodbye. Rachel has to have her foot treated at the hospital after falling from a balcony. Since she is not insured, she poses as Monica and lets her handle the treatment. However, since the two are not very good at lying, the fraud threatens to be exposed, also because they are dating two doctors at the clinic. Ross' monkey Marcel swallows Scrabble parts, but survives.

Joey loses to Chandler and Ross in poker after mistaking a 3 for an 8. Monica, Phoebe and Rachel are surprised that there weren't any women. Since they can't play poker themselves, they want to learn, but lose big to the boys. They seek help from Aunt Iris, who has been a shrewd player since her youth. In the round of revenge nothing changes, only sayings are knocked out. On the second revenge, everyone except Ross and Rachel throw a big pot. During the round, Rachel received a rejection by phone after the job interview had actually gone well. She is disappointed, but at least she wins the big pot. Ross doesn't reveal his hand, so Joey and Chandler, who lent him money for the pot, want to see what Ross prevents.

To get closer to Rachel, Ross has come up with a new plan. He asks Rachel to take care of his little Capuchin monkey Marcel so that he can spend a little more romantic time with her when he returns. However, Marcel runs away while Rachel is supposed to take care of him, and instead of a romantic evening, the two have to go in search of Marcel together with the other friends. To make matters worse, Ross also gets into trouble with the animal welfare association, as it is actually forbidden to keep monkeys. Marcel is ultimately found with his neighbor, Mr. Heckles, who baited him with a banana.

Rachel feels guilty because after an intimate treatment with her dentist and ex-fiancé Barry, she is now supposed to be the bridesmaid at his wedding to her friend Mindy. However, she learns that Barry was already having an affair with Mindy after their engagement. Therefore, the two confront Barry together, who apologizes and sticks to the wedding with Mindy. Chandler is torn because he wants to see his date Danielle again but doesn't want to contact her too quickly so as not to appear desperate. Monica and Joey are upset about someone they are watching from across the street in the apartment.

Monica's credit card is stolen, but instead of having the card blocked, she follows the accounts and catches up with the thief. She does things that Monica always wanted to do, but was never able to overcome. Since Monica sees her soul mate in the thief, she befriends her and refrains from filing a complaint. The wrong Monica is caught anyway. Ross has to hand over his little monkey Marcel, as this has reached sexual maturity and could become aggressive if it does not find a partner. Joey is looking for a distinctive stage name, with Chandler being more or less helpful to him.

Monica fell in love with Ethan, who is said to be only 22 years old. Since Monica is already 26 and the age difference troubles her, she claims to be 22 too. After their first night together, she reveals to Ethan that she lied. Ethan reveals to Monica that he too lied and is actually only 16. Monica then ended the relationship. Phoebe replaces Chandler's secretary, but doesn't let him work in peace. He also has to learn that the relationship with his colleagues has changed significantly since his promotion. Rachel has intimate dreams that initially only concern Chandler, then Joey and finally Ross.

The day of the birth of Ross and Carol's son has come and Ross has gone to the hospital with the friends to help Carol. However, since he argues with Susan all the time, Carol sends the two out of the room. They accidentally lock themselves in a broom closet with Phoebe, who came with them to settle, and almost miss the birth. When they see the baby, they put their disputes aside and agree on the name Ben . In between, Joey helps another expectant mother, as she is in a dispute with the child's father and is therefore alone in the hospital. Rachel flirts openly with the doctor.

Joey signed up as a sperm donor to make some money. Since he has to abstain from the study outside of the study and he is embarrassed about the matter in itself, he does not tell his current partner about it and devotes himself completely to her without coming to a conclusion himself. Chandler accidentally tells Rachel on her birthday that Ross, who is meanwhile on a business trip to China , has been in love with her for a long time. After Rachel has realized her own feelings, she leaves her date and drives to the airport to pick Ross up and discuss their relationship with him. Ross doesn't end up alone, however.

Since Rachel was not at the airport in time for Ross' departure to China to confess her love for him, she waits eagerly at the airport when he returns. When he arrives, however, he is not alone, as he met Julie at work in China. Rachel does not explain to Ross, however, but is pitied by the other friends and occasionally gossips about Julie, with whom she avoids contact. In desperation, Rachel gets involved with Paolo again for a short time. Phoebe cuts Joey and Chandler's hair. Convinced of the result, Monica also lets her cut her hair, with less success. During a visit to Joey's tailor , Chandler discovers that he is far more intrusive than appropriate when taking the measurements. He then has to inform Joey that this is not the normal process, as Joey assumed.

Chandler and Joey feel uncomfortable while Carol breastfeeds Ben. Meanwhile, Ross tries to bring himself to taste breast milk . The other friends are also divided as to whether trying breast milk is natural or disgusting. Joey has problems with his part-time job in the department store because a colleague with a particularly masculine appearance and a cool cowboy outfit steals the show from him. Rachel continues to avoid Ross' new girlfriend. When Monica goes shopping with Julie, Rachel's jealousy increases, as Julie now "takes away" not only Ross, but also her best friend Monica. However, Monica assures Rachel of her friendship.

When the bitter and lonely neighbor Mr. Heckles dies and leaves his legacy to the residents of the apartment above him (Monica and Rachel), Chandler falls into a midlife crisis because he recognizes and believes many connections between himself and Mr. Heckles, including himself will die a lonely man Phoebe says during a conversation that she does not fully believe in the concept of biological evolution . The other friends find this strange, but Ross feels personally attacked because of his job and tries to convince Phoebe of it. Rachel wants to change some of the decoration in the apartment, but Monica doesn't like to see it.

Phoebe confides in her friends that she has been married for some time. However, since it is only a fictitious marriage , she has never said anything about it to date. Since her formerly gay husband, who is now outgoing straight, wants to remarry, Phoebe divorces him again, which, however, affects her more than she thought. Ross is under pressure in his relationship because he is afraid of an intimate relationship because he has only met Carol intimately so far. They get back together after Monica loses her job because of a misunderstanding.

Chandler and Joey take care of Ben when Ross drives Monica to the hospital because of an allergic reaction and receives an unpleasant injection. With Ben as a magnet for women, Joey and Chandler get to know two women and are so absorbed in the conversation that they forget little Ben on a bus. When they look for the baby at the bus company, they are shown two babies, but unfortunately they cannot remember exactly what Ben looked like. To keep the loss a secret from Ross, they decide on a baby and bring it back. Luckily for Joey and Chandler, they have chosen the right baby because, among other things, Ben often starts crying when Monica picks him up. Phoebe gets paid competition from a professional musician at the Central Perk . Instead of playing after this, she goes outside the café and tries her luck there.

Phoebe has been meeting Scott for some time, but Phoebe's annoyance is not getting really intimate, so she asks Joey for advice. Unfortunately, Scott's behavior turns out to be a scam. Rachel gets drunk on a date, as a result of which it comes to discussing the feelings with Ross and after some discussion they kiss. Chandler has gained weight due to his unsportsmanlike behavior, so Monica tries to train with him.

After the confession of love and the kiss with Rachel, Ross is desperate. Finally he is so close to his great love Rachel, but he is still in a relationship with Julie. Chandler advises Ross to make a list of the pros and cons of the two lovers. Rachel gets her hands on a printed version of the list, gets angry and therefore the fresh love threatens to fade again. Ross tries everything to get Rachel to change her mind and even leaves Julie. Monica tries cooking creations with chocolate substitutes in order to keep her head above water financially.

After an argument with Rachel in which she accuses Ross of not taking any initiative, Ross tries to bribe the caretaker to fix the heating in Monica's apartment, which can no longer be regulated. However, this is impossible as it is Christmas Eve and repair parts cannot be delivered. Phoebe, on the other hand, learns from her grandmother where her birth father lives and drives there with Joey and Chandler. Monica bakes cookies, which instead of giving tips at Christmas to the postman and others, because she is broke, which is met with mixed feedback.

Rachel wants to get over Ross for good. When she met a Russ, however, she did not notice that, in addition to his name, his appearance and character were very similar to that of Ross. Even Ross only realizes the resemblance when Chandler and Joey make fun of it. Monica goes out with Bobby, who Monica discovers, however, is an alcoholic. Together they try to defeat the addiction. Joey is offered a role in the soap opera "Days of our lives", but he would have to sleep with the woman who runs the casting.

Ross has just come to terms with the fact that his ex-wife Carol is now living with Susan when the two reveal to him that they want to get married. At the beginning Ross has objections to the lesbian wedding, but since he sees that the two are happy together, the wedding is still harmonious and he leads Carol to the altar. Monica takes the chance and organizes the catering. One of Phoebe's customers dies during the massage and her soul binds to her until the wedding. Rachel receives a visit from her mother, who is considering a divorce from Rachel's father.

Ross finds out that his former house monkey Marcel has now become a movie star and plays a role in many commercials. Meanwhile, Joey has his first permanent series role in a soap opera and is overjoyed to finally have his own fan base. However, he has to realize that some fans can get quite annoying. He also realizes that dating his own stalker is not the best idea. Phoebe gets to know Rob and, after an offer from him, plays some pieces on the guitar for the children, which are more or less appropriate.

Ross is said to be on TV because of a fossil. Instead of keeping the appointment, he takes Rachel to the hospital because she was injured in a crash with Monica.

Meanwhile, the friends are having fun and playing strip poker when Bonnie unexpectedly joins them. This annoys Rachel, as it interrupts her flirtation with Ross, whom she is trying to fill up. Rachel encourages Bonnie in private that she would look very good bald. However, the shave is not to Ross's taste, which is why Rachel then confronts Rachel. She admits her feelings for him, although she still cannot forgive him for sleeping with another woman during their break from the relationship. There is a kiss. Rachel and Bonnie then wait in their rooms for Ross, who now has to make a decision. Phoebe sneaks into her parents' friend's apartment, where it turns out that the person in the photo is not her father. However, the woman claims that she is Phoebe's mother.

However, the friends react defiantly because they don't like Ross being always right. Ross tries to talk Phoebe into conscience. Due to her family situation, she is attached to the cat and demands an apology from Ross, so Ross apologizes in the interests of their friendship.

She even shies away from making music again because she can't keep up with Ross. Therefore, he deliberately plays a bad piece and then quits playing so that Phoebe can find her musical track again.

Since Chandler said that Rachel was not looking for a fixed relationship, various people invited him or gave him things so that he could set them up. However, the whole thing is only really successful after a second conversation, in which Monica enthusiastically explains the seven zones of a woman. Joey starts a part-time job as a museum guide. At lunch he notices that there is a separate distribution of seats depending on the activity in the museum. Joey is therefore disappointed when Ross does not sit down with him. In retrospect, Ross feels sorry for that, so the next day he questions the seating arrangement with a pathetic speech.

Monica realizes that she doesn't know how a single switch works in the apartment. She uses all means to find out the function, but fails despite the broken walls.

Rachel doesn't find the courage to ask at the party either, so she offers up all of her seduction techniques, such as different outfits, spin the bottle and cheerleading . When, in addition to the other attempts, taking off the bra with the T-shirt on does not really work, she is depressed and finally confesses her affection to Joshua. Although he initially leaves the party believing it will be too soon after his divorce, he returns and begins a relationship with Rachel. Phoebe eats meat at the party despite being a vegetarian because her taste has changed a lot since she was pregnant. When she then reproaches herself, Joey offers that he could eat a vegetarian diet for the time of her pregnancy so that the balance of animals killed remains the same.

To show her how serious he is, Ross flies to London. There he realizes that she is not in her apartment overnight, so he imagines her with the other. However, Emily has flown to New York to surprise Ross again and to confess her love. Everything is only cleared up after a phone call. During a medical check-up, Phoebe is told that she is pregnant with triplets. Alice and Frank Jr. are thrilled about this, but have to make financial security plans, with Phoebe looking to help them by setting up a self-employed masseuse. Joey and Chandler surprisingly received a television signal with pornographic content without knowing how and without paying for it. Therefore, they do not want to switch off the television because otherwise they fear the loss of the signal, which, however, increasingly affects life in the apartment and in everyday life. He announces that his name will be legally changed, so Phoebe wants to show him that the name is quite beautiful, and wants to name the child as well, if Chandler keeps his name. It turns out that's how he planned this from the start. Monica cooks for Rachel so she'll look good on her date with Joshua. You have to pack the food though as Joshua is terrified of the birds in the house. They go to his parents' house, who are going on a trip, and Rachel puts on lovely nightwear. When the parents are at home and see them that way, she has to declare it new fashion and go to dinner in the outfit. While Emily spends time with Susan in London, Ross becomes paranoid about his history with Carol and Susan.

They offset the protest by Rachel and Monica kissing in front of their eyes for a minute. Phoebe admits that this was her idea. After the first six weeks of their relationship, Ross no longer wants Emily to spend so little time with him. So he spontaneously asks her if she would like to move in with him. She says frankly that such a significant step would only be possible in the future if you plan and marry together for your whole life. Overwhelmed by their own spontaneity and their feelings, the two get engaged. The friends are surprised, but happy for both of them.

Phoebe has more and more mood swings and, towards the end, the first contractions, which makes it difficult for Monica and Rachel to deal with her, who organize a baby shower for her .

Phoebe warns Joey on the phone about the arriving Rachel, who is also told by another passenger on the plane at the same time that her plan is wrong. When Rachel arrives, however, she just congratulates Ross without mentioning anything of her love. Ross' parents argue with Emily's parents about the wedding bill until Ross settles the dispute. Everything is romantic at the wedding, until Ross accidentally says “Rachel” instead of “Emily” at the wedding.

While Joey continues to cling to the bridesmaid, Chandler and Monica try to find some privacy as inconspicuously as possible, but fail every time - even on the flight back they fail. While the other friends are already on the flight home, Rachel is still looking for a suitable return flight. She meets the waiting Ross, who invites her to fly with him on the honeymoon, because the trip has already been paid for, Ross needs some distraction and Emily has not yet shown up. When Rachel is already going to the plane, Ross turns around again and sees Emily. This draws its conclusions from what has been seen and leaves the airport. Ross tries to follow her, but loses sight of her while Rachel sits alone on the plane to Greece.

But Monica convinces him that disputes are also part of a relationship. From the individual statements of the two, however, Joey recognizes their partnership and is sworn to silence by them. Ross tells Rachel of Emily's condition, which offends and annoys her. Everyone worries about the going on with the group, as there has been a similar case in the past with Chandler's former roommate Kip. After a failed relationship with Monica, he was more and more excluded, although he was previously an integral part of the group. To reduce Rachel's fear of it, Ross tells her that he, not her, will voluntarily distance himself.

The rest of the story takes place in an alternate reality. Ross meets Rachel by chance on the street and invites her to the café, where there is a reunion with Monica. In the evening Rachel is sad and wants to sleep with Ross, but he refuses because he doesn't think it's a good idea. Rachel is mad at Ross the next morning, and he says they should never have sex again. Back in town, Rachel thanks Ross again for coming with me and the two reflect on their love story. Rachel says there will always be something between them that confuses him and he leaves. Meanwhile, Erica visits and reveals that her baby's father may be a murderer, giving Monica and Chandler a sleepless night. But Chandler finds out on a trip with Erica that she only really had sex with one of the men and that was the other.

Rachel has an interview in a restaurant for a job at Gucci, but her boss at Ralph Lauren sees her, which is why she pretends to be in front of the Gucci salesman ( Brent Spiner ) and therefore doesn't get the job. At the same time, she is also released from Ralph Lauren. By chance she meets her old colleague Mark from Bloomingdale, who arranges an interview for her for a job at Louis Vuitton. She gets the job, the only problem is that it would be in Paris. The newly married Phoebe tries to change her name to Phoebe Hannigan. Joey's agent Estelle dies, but the group won't tell him as it would give him the rest after the recent changes. Phoebe therefore calls Joey and speaks with a disguised voice like Estelle and provokes him until Joey fires her. Shortly thereafter, he learns from another client that Estelle has died. And again Phoebe calls as Estelle, which totally upsets him. While Monica and Chandler have a realtor ( Jane Lynch ) show them to the neighboring house , they are appalled that Janice, who is also there, is considering buying the house. Chandler feels compelled to take drastic measures to scare her off so that she does not become their neighbor. Ross tries to get Rachel back to her old job because he doesn't want her to go to Paris. But she rejects the new offer from Ralph Lauren. In the end, Ross persuades her to do what she wants to do.

When Erica arrives in New York to prepare for the baby's birth, Monica throws a farewell party for Rachel, at which Rachel says goodbye to each of them and moves them to tears. Rachel later reveals to Ross that her story would make it difficult for her to say goodbye to him and they kiss. Monica and Chandler are packing for their move, Chandler finds a pair of handcuffs in the guest room and tries to find out who they belong to. After the night with Ross, Rachel says 'it's the perfect way to say goodbye' and he realizes that he is still in love with her. Phoebe therefore accompanies Ross to the airport so that he can tell Rachel his feelings, but they end up at the wrong airport. Phoebe calls Rachel and tells something about a missing part that leads to the plane being evacuated. In this way you can make it to the right airport in time. Ross tells her how he feels about her, but she gets on the plane anyway. Rachel thinks about Ross' request, so she puts it on the answering machine. But in the middle of it the message breaks off and when Ross turns around, Rachel is standing in his apartment. In the meantime, it turns out that Erica was pregnant with twins, because the doctor says after the birth of the first baby that it is still going on. Chandler and Monica name the twins Jack and Erica. At the end they all meet in Monica and Chandler's empty apartment, hand in their keys and decide to have a last cup of coffee together.
