Spin the Bottle is a game in which players are chosen at random to complete specific tasks.

As a selection

In a convivial circle, an empty bottle is often turned around in a seated circle in order to determine by chance who is next in line to do something based on the direction in which the opening of the bottle neck ultimately points. Usually it is determined beforehand what the person should do. The chosen person is then allowed to turn the bottle next.

As an erotic game

Children and adolescents often play spin the bottle to have erotic and / or sexual experiences. The games are therefore mostly played in unobserved situations, sometimes in secret locations. The standard task is to kiss a girl or a boy (with mutual consent) . The kisser is chosen by the bottle. He turns the bottle one more time and has to kiss whoever the bottle is pointing at. The kissed person now turns the bottle again and kisses the person to whom the bottle is pointing, then it is his turn and so on. There are other variants: The person to be kissed is usually determined by the person chosen. However, these may refuse. The type of kiss is either determined in advance or negotiated between the kisser and the kissed person.

Older adolescents and adults also choose more extensive tasks. A common variant is that the selected person should take off items of clothing. Sometimes it is also combined with the game of Truth or Dare .

In the post-pornographic film “ Nibbles ”, spin the bottle is combined with drawing cards with questions and actions about sex .

As a board game

Spin the bottle is also played as a general board game. Depending on the type of group, the players choose a wide variety of topics. From these questions and tasks are then asked.

In a variant, if the answer is wrong or the task is not fulfilled, a penalty is imposed, which the person concerned must then fulfill.

There are now many commercial offers where the questions and tasks are written on cards. The selection is usually made with a dice. The games are tailored to specific groups of players and related topics. Most deal with relationship and partnership issues, personal and psychological development, or general attitudes towards life. Well-known games are: "Guss und Cariso", Therapy, Team-Work.

As a test of courage

Spin the bottle is used for tests of courage , especially in youth groups . The group thinks of special challenging tasks that the elected must then fulfill. Some tasks also include experiences outside the group, for example in public or with uninvolved third parties.
