Bachelorette party
The bachelorette party or hen party (short: JGA ) is a wedding custom in which fiancées celebrate separately from the respective partner before the actual wedding, mostly, but not necessarily, gender-separated .
Development over time
There were celebrations before the wedding in ancient Greece, where it was made possible for the bride's parents to evaluate the dignity of the future groom. Since the 19th century, bachelor parties have been recorded as general celebrations on the eve of the wedding in German-speaking countries . In countries like Great Britain and the USA, this is traditionally celebrated with relatives and friends as a “stag party” (men) or “ hen night ” (women). Since the 1980s, the custom gained a tendency towards increased alcohol consumption and sexualization. This was taken over in Germany with a slight delay. The tradition of the bachelorette party is often incorrectly used in Germany today as a synonym for the bachelorette party: However, this refers to two different events that take place separately from each other (the bachelorette party usually a few weeks before the wedding). This new tradition is gaining popularity in more and more regions of the world through American films and series. With the consolidation of the custom in German-speaking countries, a professionalization of loose drinking tours to an organized program can be observed.
procedure
Often the bachelor (or bachelorette) will be picked up by friends at home, where in addition to the classic wagon and stretch limousines or party buses can be used. It is a ritual to wear the same T-shirts with a claim or to put on a costume for the bachelorette. Often the bachelor is given various tasks or games are played. It is also common for bachelors to sell small products such as lighters, condoms or schnapps to passers-by with the help of a vendor's shop . The money raised will later be used for common purposes, for example a drinks round. Popular are beyond Strip deposits , pub crawls and bar hopping.
The games, tasks, and costume partly serve to expose the bachelor. In Germany, a bachelorette party is usually limited to one day, while in England partying for several days is not uncommon.
organization
The bachelorette party usually takes place a short time before the wedding and is usually organized by friends or the groomsmen in German-speaking countries. In England or the USA, but also in Germany, there are numerous agencies that deal professionally with the organization of JGAs.
