Joseph "Joe" Regalbuto (born August 24, 1949 in New York City , New York ) is an American actor and director .

Life

Regalbuto began his career in 1977 with a small supporting role in Herbert Ross ' comedy The Subtenant . In 1977 he played alongside Martin Short one of the leading roles in the sitcom The Associates , which was discontinued after 13 episodes. He subsequently played guest roles on television series such as Lou Grant and Mork vom Ork . In 1982 he had a supporting role alongside Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek in the Oscar- winning drama Missing from Costa-Gavras . In 1985 he played alongside Rex Smith one of the two main roles in the television series Street Hawk , through which he became known in German-speaking countries; this series was also discontinued after 13 episodes. Between 1988 and 1998 he played the role of Frank Fontana in the sitcom Murphy Brown in 122 episodes , for which he was nominated for an Emmy in 1989 . From the late 1980s onwards, Regalbuto also worked as a television director. In addition to 20 episodes by Murphy Brown , he also shot individual episodes of Titus , Friends and The Magicians of Waverly Place .

Regalbuto has been married since 1972 and has three children.
