Rex Smith (born September 19, 1955 in Jacksonville , Florida ) is an American singer and actor .

Life

Smith was an American teen idol in the late 1970s. In 1979 he had a top 10 hit in the USA with the single You Take My Breath Away from his gold album Sooner and Later . He first appeared on Broadway in 1978 in a production of the musical Grease , which was followed by other, sometimes long-term engagements. Smith also appeared as a television actor, he gained fame in German-speaking countries through the lead role as motorcycle policeman Jesse Mach in the 1985 television series Street Hawk . He also had guest roles in television series such as Love Boat , Der Sentinel - Im Auge des Jäger , Cagney & Lacey and JAG . In 2000, Rex Smith released his album Simply… Rex . In 2008 he performed live in the sold out Hard Rock Cafe in Manila , Philippines.

Smith is a second marriage with five children.
