Game flow

cards

Five Card Draw is played by two to a maximum of seven people with a pack of 52 French or Anglo-American playing cards.

While most poker variants (eg. As Seven Card Stud , Five Card Stud , Texas Hold'em , Omaha Hold'em ) cards with major indices ( Large index are) used, to use this in draw poker less happy , since the large indices are quite impractical when fanning out five cards.

share

Any player in turn deals out the cards individually and face up until a jack falls. Whoever receives this is the giver in the first round. After each game, the right to deal changes clockwise.

Before the start of a game, each player pays the fixed basic stake, the ante , into the pot . Then each player receives five cards individually and face down. The remaining cards are placed face down as a talon in the middle of the table.

The aim is to get the highest poker combination , or to get the other players to give up by playing skillfully ( bluffing ).

First round of betting

After the split, the first betting round takes place ( betting interval ). The player to dealer's left has to speak first , that is, he can either

  • wait ( check ) and make no use or
  • Bet ( bet ), d. H. within the allowed limits ( limits pay a bet in the pot).

If this player waits, the next player can also wait or bet, etc.

However, once a player has bet, the following players can only either

  • hold ( call also respond ), and to deposit the same amount in the pot, or
  • increase ( raise ) and set a higher amount than the previous player, or
  • get ( fold and fit ) - in this case, the player places his cards face-down and are lost this game.

If one or more players have bet, the betting round continues until all players either

  • have kept the stake or
  • dropped out of the game.

A player may not bet twice in a row in a betting round unless another player raised between the two bids. So if a player opens the round with a bet or raises and all following players either hold or fold, this betting round is over.

Usually a maximum of three raises is allowed in a betting round. After a player has opened ( bet ), you can raise ( raise ), overbid ( reraise ) and complete the betting round with a third increase ( cap ).

Card exchange

After the first round of betting, cards are exchanged ( draw ). Each player can now discard the cards that appear unusable to him face down and then receive the same number of cards from the talon.

Usually a player is allowed to exchange a maximum of four cards, but this number should definitely be agreed before the start of the game, as the exchange is often limited to a maximum of three cards, but sometimes all five cards can be exchanged .

Cards that have been discarded remain on the table and are not added to the talon again. Under no circumstances may a player pick up his discarded cards again.

If the number of remaining cards is not sufficient to supply all players with new cards, all cards in the talon are dealt first with the exception of the last card, then all cards that were previously discarded are collected, shuffled, and the deal continues. The last card of the pile must never be dealt, it is always shuffled together with the discarded cards.

The purpose of these regulations is that the bottom card of the stack can be recognized by a player as a result of a negligent hand position of the dealer and that the player could take advantage of it.

Second betting round

After the card exchange, there is a second betting round. The player who last raised in the first betting round or, if there was no raise, the person who opened the first betting round, must speak first.

If in a round of betting all but one player off ( fold ), so this remaining player wins the pot, he needs his paper does not show off.

Showdown

If two or more participants are still in the game after the second betting round, the show down begins . The player who raised last or, if no one raised, whoever opened the last betting round must show their hand in full .

All players remaining in the game can now prove their eligibility to win one after the other and also reveal their cards.

The player with the highest hand wins and receives the pot.

In the event of equal combinations, the pot will be divided among the winners.

The pot can of course also be won earlier if all but one of the players in a round put down their cards and give up ( fold ).

Jackpots

Very often the rule applies that a player may only open the first round of betting if he has a pair of jacks or a higher value hand, which he must show at the end of the game. (The opener's cards that were discarded during the exchange are therefore set aside so that the opener, should he "tear" the combination required for the opening, can subsequently prove that he has held a valid opening in his hands.)

If no one opens in a round, the bets remain in the pot and the cards are tossed. The players in turn deposit their basic stakes, and the player to the left of the divider deals the cards for the new game.

The increased for the additional stakes prize pool is Jack pot - (. See this designation from the poker game is entered everyday language Jackpot ).

Play with joker

Occasionally, 53 hands are played, i.e. H. a wildcard is added to the package . The joker can - depending on the agreement - replace any card, or it can only be used with the following restrictions (see Pai Gow ). In the latter case, the joker is also called " bug " and is only allowed

  • to complete a straight , flush , straight flush or royal flush or
  • as an ace

be used.

When playing with Joker form Five of a Kind ( Five of a kind ), the most significant combination and beat a Royal Flush . If the joker only as Bug used, are five aces ( Five Aces ) the only possible five combination.
