Birth preparation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The collective term birth preparation describes various courses and offers for women during pregnancy that are intended to prepare them physically, mentally and / or psychologically for the birth or, above all, to provide information.

Courses with this designation are recommended from the 25th week of pregnancy (sixth to seventh month of pregnancy) and are usually offered by midwives , usually in a hospital with an attached maternity department or in a midwifery practice / birthing center .

Typical contents are:

  • Movement exercises
  • the breathing technique during childbirth
  • Relaxation exercises and partner massages
  • the course of pregnancy
  • Information on different delivery techniques
  • Pain relief options during childbirth, e.g. B. Epidural Anesthesia (PDA)
  • Breastfeeding
  • Baby care - there are extra courses for this
  • Visit of the delivery room and the maternity ward or the birthing room of a birthing center
  • Pelvic floor training

As more and more fathers are present at birth, such courses are also offered to couples. But even in all-women courses there is at least one partner evening to prepare the fathers-to-be. Here they should learn how to breathe with their partner, where to massage and how and which birth postures exist. The fathers' participation fee for these courses is only covered occasionally by a health insurance company and then mostly only partially covered.

The program Safe - Safe Education for Parents is also aimed at expectant parents , which aims to enable parents to understand their baby's emotional needs and signals , to react sensitively to them and thus to promote the development of their child's bond.
