Brisch is the author of several books on attachment theory , attachment disorders and their psychotherapy .

His research focus is the early parent-child bond. For this he has u. a. Developed the parent program Safe - Safe Education for Parents , which is aimed at parents-to-be and is intended to serve as an education and training program to promote a secure bond between parents and children .

Brisch's work is based in particular on his findings on transgenerational trauma . He sees the processing of one's own childhood trauma as a preventive prerequisite for healthy development between parents and child, as otherwise disruptions would arise due to a re-enactment of the trauma and the way would be paved for transgenerational transmission .

In view of the expansion of day nursery care in Germany, Brisch points out the urgent need to improve the quality of care; In particular, the care key in day nurseries must be significantly improved, the training must be specifically geared towards the smallest children, the educators must be supported by good working conditions and supervision and a decent salary, and attachment-oriented familiarization must take place so that the children do not lack emotional contact. Under suitable conditions, a six-month-old child could develop a secure bond with a caregiver in the daycare center. Regarding funding, he notes that such an investment in early education prevents behavioral problems in the long term.

Brisch is a founding member of the Society for Mental Health in Early Childhood (GAIMH - German-Speaking Association for Infant Mental Health), one of the subsidiaries of the World Association for Infant Mental Health, and was on its board for many years. Every year he organizes a renowned international liaison conference as scientific director .
