Nadine Morano (2012)

Nadine Morano (* 6. November 1963 in Nancy , Lorraine ) is a French politician of Republican (LR).

Life

Morano studied at the Université de Lorraine . In the Fillon II cabinet , she was State Secretary for Family and Solidarity in the Ministry of Labor. From November 14, 2010 to May 10, 2012, she was in the Fillon III cabinet of François Fillon, succeeding Nicole Péry, Minister for Vocational Education and Teaching at the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Vocational Training and Social Dialogue. She was succeeded in office as Minister Thierry Repentin . Morano has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014 . There she is a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and of the delegation for relations with the Pan-African Parliament. Morano is married and has three children.

In September 2015, Morano announced that he would run in the right-wing primaries for the 2017 presidential election .

In October 2015, Morano came under criticism for a statement on a talk show that was judged to be racist. Morano had lamented an "invasion" by Muslim immigrants and the disappearance of the traditional, Catholic -influenced identity of France and - citing Charles de Gaulle - said that France was mostly a "Judeo-Christian country of the white race". The use of the term “white race” and the reduction of French identity to skin color were also heavily criticized in their own party. It was also pointed out that Morano misrepresented this quote from 1959 and disregarded the fact that the term “race” had a different meaning then than it does today. The party chairman Nicolas Sarkozy then applied to the electoral commission (in which Morano was vice-chairman) that the top spot on the list for the Alsace-Lorraine-Champagne-Ardennes region be withdrawn in the regional elections in December. On October 7th, the commission decided to remove Morano from the list. Morano was considered a close confidante of Sarkozy and, like him, a representative of the right-wing, Gaullist party wing.
