Edgar Ott (born July 2, 1929 in Berlin-Dahlem ; † February 13, 1994 in Berlin ) was a German actor , radio play speaker and voice actor .

Life

Edgar Otts' acting career began at the Hebbel Theater in Berlin , where he also attended drama school, and in the stands. From the beginning of the 1950s he was one of the batch actors at the Staatliche Schauspielbühnen Berlin for more than 30 years . From 1975 to 1979 Ott played one of the leading roles in 39 episodes of the ARD crime series Kommissariat 9 .

During his professional career, it was mainly his voice that became famous. In the dubbing studio, Ott not only provided well-known foreign colleagues such as Telly Savalas (as Kojak in Manhattan ), Bill Cosby ( tennis rackets and cannons ) and Gordon Jackson ( Das Haus am Eaton Place and Die Profis ) with his German voice, but also popular cartoon characters . His voice can be heard in numerous Walt Disney films. As Baloo, the bear, he sang the song Try it out with comfort in the film The Jungle Book . He also sang and spoke the chef Toni in Lady and the Tramp (1968), the street cat Thomas O'Malley in Aristocats (1970), Little John in Robin Hood (1973), the Professor Rattenzahn in Basil, the great mouse detective (1986) or the sea king Triton in Ariel the Mermaid (1989).

One of his best-known radio play roles - he has appeared in 312 radio plays as a speaker - was that of the talking elephant Benjamin Blümchen , which he performed from 1977 until his death. He also played the role in some Benjamin the Blümchen cartoons.

He spoke the character of Obelix in three films in the Asterix series . He also lent his voice to the Cookie Monster in Sesame Street and Bongo Bärentatze from the radio play series Xanti . Ott spoke u. a. also Lino Ventura in The Interrogation , Lloyd Bridges in Hot Shots , Bud Spencer in Today I ... Tomorrow You! and Sidney James in several films in the carry-on series, which he also directed several times for dubbing .

Edgar Ott was married to the actress Liane Croon . He died of a heart attack in 1994 while walking his dog at the age of 64 . He found his final resting place in the cemetery of the island church St. Severin in Keitum on Sylt .
